EIS provide expert speakers to support Elite Sport Expo
Practitioners and senior staff from the English Institute of Sport (EIS) will be providing high performance sport expertise and insight at this year’s Elite Sport Expo in London.
Taking place from 8-9 May 2019, at London’s ExCeL, Elite Sports Expo brings together elite sport clubs, coaches and athletes.
The EIS’s core values include collaboration which fits perfectly with the event’s idea to encourage information sharing, networking and best practice across all sports.
Innovations in strength and conditioning, Speed Agility and Fitness (SAQ) training, data analysis, nutrition, injury prevention and recovery will be at the heart of the 2019 exhibition. With the EIS’s focus on all areas of sport science, medicine, technology and engineering, its staff are perfectly positioned to discuss cutting edge advancements and the latest industry trends.
On the first day, EIS National Director, Nigel Walker, will be appearing on the main stage discussing the future of sport and mass participation alongside Nico Heslop, Head of Sport at DCMS and others to be confirmed. The panel will consider how sports organisations can build on medal successes to meet the Government’s vision of using high performance sport to promote inspiration, participation, economic growth and social impacts on physical and mental health in wider society.
Walker said: “I’m delighted to be representing the EIS at the Elite Sport Expo. With such a large number of attendees, it’s a coming together of the industry. It aligns with one of our key values which is Collaboration, so we’re more than happy to share insights as well as having the opportunity to listen and learn. This event gives the EIS a platform to demonstrate its impact on elite sport and to explain its role at the heart of UK high performance sport.”

There is a strong EIS representation across the two days with Kevin Currell, Director of Science and Technical Development, sharing insights into how scientific processes are being used to optimise sports performance.
Currell added: “The Elite Sport Expo is a great opportunity for the EIS to share some of our work with other leaders and thinkers from across the elite sports industry. With such a diverse mix on offer at the event, it allows our staff a platform to demonstrate how we impact on both performance and athletes themselves – both mentally and physically.”
Mike Naylor, Head of Performance Nutrition at the EIS, follows him by focusing on fuelling athletes, from people to podiums. He will demonstrate how the EIS accumulates the effects of changes to optimise and enhance performance.
The first day closes with EIS Head of Performance Psychology, Kate Hays, speaking alongside Jo Harrison, EIS Head of Performance Lifestyle, about how the institute is seeking to develop people as well as athletes.
This session will look at the development of Project THRIVE, courtesy of the EIS Performance Psychology team, and the steps being taken with the introduction of the Mental Health Strategy for the High Performance System, designed to nurture a positive mental health environment across Olympic and Paralympic sport.
Max Quittenton, Director at Elite Sport Expo, said: “We couldn’t be happier to welcome a range of speakers from the English Institute of Sport. Their work is world leading and offers cutting edge solutions to numerous British sports, so they’re perfectly placed to offer insight into the world of elite sport.”
