EIS roundup 15/02/19: workshops, trips and medals

Sarah Dickinson | 15 February 2019

The EIS has once again been busy over the last two weeks, from athlete workshops to a visit to NASA!

Performance Lifestyle advisor Alex Bailey has been delivering workshops to athletes around the country, in a collaboration between EIS, UK Sport, and the Home Nations, entitled ‘Promoting a Positive Mental health Environment for Swimming’. The workshops have been a fantastic opportunity for leaders, coaches, and practitioners from British Swimming to share a learning environment, along with team members and colleagues from GB Para Swimming and GB Diving. These are still on-going, and have proved so successful than Alex has had to add in an extra date.

EIS head of Performance Analysis Julia Wells met with staff at Suffolk University on Tues 5th Feb to evaluate their new undergrad and post-graduate courses in performance analysis and ensure they are aligned to the applied work in the EIS. She also met with some of the students that are looking to pursue a career in performance analysis.

The UK Sport / EIS Sports Intelligence team embarked on a study tour to San Francisco. Attendees were from numerous National Governing Bodies, the British Paralympic Association, and EIS Performance Pathways team. Visiting the likes of NASA, the Golden State Warriors, and Nike, the team have caught up with many world-leading data driven organisations.

On 13th Feb, Dr Lee Herrington from the EIS physiotherapy team visited the FA’s Women’s Football Performance Support Network to share his knowledge on ACL injuries in female footballers.

Piers Gilliver and Dimitri Coutya collected two medals each at the Wheelchair Fencing IWAS (International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation) World Cup in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Wheelchair Fencing’s World Class Programme is managed by the EIS.
