EIS welcomes three new board members
The English Institute of Sport (EIS) is pleased to announce three new appointments to the organisation’s board.
Matt Rogan (pictured below – left) and Ken van Someren (pictured below – right) have been confirmed as non-executive directors advising on Information Management and Science and Technical respectively, taking over from Craig Hunter and Jo Doust.
Matt is the Chair of Two Circles, a data-driven sports marketing agency which works with some of the world’s biggest sports organisations. Matt co-founded Two Circles in 2011, and led the company’s growth to become one of the leading agencies in the country, including winning the coveted title of Sport Industry Awards Agency of the Year in 2017.
Ken’s appointment marks a return for him to the EIS, after he held positions with the organisation between 2005 and 2013. As part of his Board responsibilities, he will chair the Science & Ethics Advisory Group. Ken is a former international sprint kayaker and has over 20 years’ experience as a practitioner, researcher and leader across higher education, high performance sport and industry. He is currently a Visiting Professor at two UK Universities and a Fellow of BASES.
Retired hockey player and current UK Sport board member Annie Panter (pictured below) has also joined the EIS board.
EIS Chair John Steele said: “These appointments are key for the future direction of the organisation. Matt and Ken bring expertise in data technology and scientific knowledge to the board, and they’ll be driving forward our performance in those areas particularly, while Ken’s technical expertise makes him the ideal Chair of our Advisory Group.
“I would also like to welcome Annie to the board. As a former athlete, she brings that unique viewpoint as well as her significant experience of finance and sport since she retired.
“I look forward to working with all three who I am confident will play their part in enabling the EIS to provide first class support to all sports.”
Commenting on his appointment, Matt Rogan said: “I’m relishing the opportunity to join the EIS board at a pivotal time for sport in this country. I look forward to supporting the talented EIS management team in realising the genuine potential of the organisation to Tokyo and beyond.’’
Fellow new board member Ken van Someren added: “I’m delighted to be joining the EIS board and it’s a privilege to be able to contribute to the performance and direction of the organisation.
He added: “I look forward to bringing my broad leadership and governance experience to help the EIS deliver the very highest quality support to sports and drive world-leading innovation.”
Annie, who won an Olympic bronze medal at London 2012, added: “Having benefited from the support of the EIS during my time with hockey I know only too well the wide range of expertise that is delivered daily.
“I hope my experience as an athlete and since I’ve retired will be able to benefit the EIS and I look forward to getting started.”
