Online platform ABSORB accessed over 2,000 times in one year

Twelve months on from its launch, online knowledge platform ABSORB has been accessed over 2,000 times by English Institute of Sport (EIS) staff.

ABSORB is an online platform enabling 24/7 multi-modal knowledge access and acquisition for EIS physiotherapists and doctors. It was developed to support the organisation’s mission of developing outstanding people and accelerating their ability to deliver world leading practice.

The EIS is the country’s largest supplier of sports science, medicine and technology. Known as the ‘team behind the team’, the organisation provides a wide range of services plus many added benefits to over 35 Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Knowledge is created and curated by a team of experts and is categorised into key module areas including the Lower Limb, Upper Limb, Spine, Concepts in Injury Management and Rehabilitation and the Paralympic Athlete. There are additional categories covering everything from Cryotherapy to Taping and Strapping and Soft Tissue Therapy.

ABSORB is easy to access and navigate and its content is intelligence and insight driven, meaning that relevant knowledge is immediately available to practitioners.

What information is contained on ABSORB?

– Over 250 bespoke videos
– Over 130 photos
– Approximately 40 webcasts
– Approximately 20 podcasts
– Written content and journal articles

It also provides a platform for internal expertise signposting and links to external journal databases as well as the dissemination of knowledge from internal CPD events and conferences.

ABSORB was developed for a number of reasons; Physiotherapy is a large discipline with over 70 employees, many of whom travel with sports for anything up to 120 days a year; some practitioners are based in relatively remote locations and experience levels vary significantly.

Simon Spencer, Head of Physiotherapy, said: “We knew that our commitment to developing practitioners to deliver world leading practice required something new and innovative – a knowledge platform which was accessible to everyone, whenever they needed it and wherever they were in the world.

“Most importantly, ABSORB is a resource to support our practitioners in delivering performance impacting physiotherapy to the athletes and sports they work with on a daily basis.

“We’re proud of developing something new, something we don’t believe exists anywhere else, the feedback we’ve received so far and the potential for its growth both within the EIS and in the wider high performance system.”
