UK Sports Institute Welcomes Richa George as New Boardroom Apprentice
The UK Sports Institute (UKSI) is delighted to announce the appointment of Richa George as the new Boardroom Apprentice.
This is the second year that the UKSI has been a Host Board as part of the nationwide Boardroom Apprentice scheme which is run by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. It seeks to provide practical experience and learning to individuals interested in serving on public or third sector boards and to enable a wider diversity of individuals to play their part in boardrooms. Richa George is an Agile delivery management professional with extensive experience managing digital products and services in central government and the charity sector. She currently works with the digital transformation team at YoungMinds, applying Agile ways of working and facilitating cross-functional collaboration to enable teams to deliver value.
Richa takes over from Lisa Grufferty, who was the UKSI’s Boardroom Apprentice during 2024.
UK Sports Institute Chair John Dowson said: “We are thrilled to have Richa join our team. We look forward to her contributions and the fresh ideas she will bring to the table. The Boardroom Apprentice programme is a fantastic way to provide emerging leaders with boardroom experience, as well as giving us the opportunity to learn from someone with a new perspective.

Richa expressed her excitement about the new role: “I’m delighted to be joining the UKSI and thrilled to have the opportunity to expand my skill set while contributing my insights and driving positive and impactful change at Board level. I’m really looking forward to learning more about UKSI, immersing myself in this role, and collaborating with the team to create meaningful change.”
The Boardroom Apprentice programme is designed to provide emerging leaders with the opportunity to gain boardroom experience and develop their leadership skills. Richa’s appointment reflects the Institute’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering diversity within its leadership.
