Boxing Performance
As an exceptionally challenging sport both physically and mentally, athletes’ require high levels of fitness to support the technical and tactical training required to excel as an Olympic boxer. GB Boxing use sport science and medical services across their men’s and women’s World Class Programmes to build physically and mentally robust and resilient athletes.
UKSI practitioners work with athletes and coaches on a daily basis at the sport’s Sheffield site, as well as at training camps and competitions around the world. As well as individual athlete support and development, expertise are used to strengthen practices and inform coaching decisions across the programme.
Whether its Physiology and Performance Analysis data giving insight into how athletes’ bodies respond to training and competition, as well as technical and tactical data on athletes and their competition, or the breadth of services required to maintain physical wellbeing, injury prevention and mental focus under pressure, practitioners work closely with the programme to maximise the impact of each service.
Getting the right support staff from the EIS has been an important factor in the success of boxing’s World Class Performance Programme. We’ve always had a positive relationship with the EIS and their fantastic practitioners have played a big role in what we’ve achieved over the last few years.
